Founded in 1979 as a partnership of the Whirlwind Group, A. L. M.T Osaka Diamond(Japan), Research Institute for Abrasives and Grinding and 27 subsidiary companies. Whirlwind is the world’s largest manufacturer of synthetic diamond, PCD, and diamond tools.

The Whirlwind facility covers 26,910,000 sq/ft of manufacturing space with 500 acres of plant under-roof and employs more than 7000 people. Net sales in 2019 amounted to USD 467 million.
